A Conversation about Construction Management Practices in Oregon
Please join us for our first meeting of 2025 as we discuss building a culture of respect and Total Worker Health on job sites, presented by Katia Costa-Black, PhD & Erin Flynn, PhD with the Oregon Institute of Occupational Health Sciences.
SafeBuild and the Oregon Institute of Occupational Health Sciences invites you to attend an interactive presentation and discussion on developing and supporting sound methodologies in construction management through building a culture of respect and Total Worker Health (TWH).
Attendees will gain deeper insight into TWH and the Respectful Workplace Initiative (RWI), provide feedback, and contribute to improving the overall safety, health, and culture at the job site level.
Networking begins at 3pm. Presented with support from the Oregon Institute of Occupational Health Sciences.

Our Presenters
Katia Costa-Black is the Senior Manager for Education and Partnerships in the Outreach team at the Oregon Institute of Occupational Health Sciences, Oregon Healthy Workforce Center (Oregon Health and Sciences University). With a dual clinical (B.Sc. Physical Therapy) and engineering (M.Sc. and Ph.D. Industrial Engineering/Ergonomics) background, Katia has supported many organizations in USA and abroad in the implementation of several types of occupational health and safety programs —whether focused on ergonomics, regulatory compliance or prevention of illnesses/ injuries/disabilities in the workplace. Over the last seven years, she has been an active advocate for the application of the NIOSH’s Total Worker Health® approach vis-à-vis her educational activities and consulting practice.
Erin Flynn leads Outreach Operations at the Institute including external relations, communications and dissemination, practitioner education, and employer partnerships. She brings over two decades of experience building public-private partnerships to her new role. Erin’s career spans research and practice in industrial organization, innovation and entrepreneurship, workforce development, and regional economic growth. Over the past two decades she has established a reputation as an organizational strategist and innovator working at the intersection of higher education, workforce development and economic prosperity. She has served in leadership roles in varied professional contexts including consulting, city government, and higher education.
